Here I’m working on a design that might work well for displays at events, sitting on a display table etc.
It’s generally not a good idea to leave a stingless bee display hive open to the light for too long as the bees will start to cover over the windows with propolis so having doors that can be opened for a quick look and closed again is very handy.
The colony volume for this one is 5.6 litres.
The internal frame that holds the colony can be removed. This might be handy as it’s easier to work on the colony for transfers or replacement. I’ve been messing around with the concept of removable internal frames since 2020 and have done a few versions over the years.
So far I have this. I was trying to make some kind of interesting latch system but I think i’d prefer something a bit more discreet than this so I’ll try some different things.

All finished. I ended up just using some standard latches.
