Above photo: Top half of the Red Mail Box hive, and bottom of the Treasure Chest hive. These have been in place since early 2017.

I’ve now split them and added the matching halves of the boxes so now I have one complete Red Mail Box and one complete Treasure Chest. Both of the hives were full of structure, pollen, honey and brood so were very healthy.

Splits 22/09/2018

Nearly one year later I’m splitting the Red Mail Box. The brood split cleanly in the perfect spot.

I’ve placed the new box right beside the old one, only because it’s a good position with a patio roof to keep the rain off.
