This is a one piece non splittable box with added honey super on top.
This is not a new idea as others have made similar designs, but I have made a few for my own entertainment, research and testing. Staying with the standard OATH dimensions enables the use of the standard roofs and brackets and not having to make a whole new system. I’ve used 25mm hoop pine and made some boxes with a 5 litre volume plus 1.7 litre honey super with a viewing window to block off the honey super area during the budding process.
What are the benefits of a single piece box? Less gaps for invading pests? A more straight forward design which should be faster and cheaper to make? This would be a great cheap basic box for rescues for the people that don’t like to split.
